Antoni Gaudí's influence in Barcelona is very important and you can still find some of his work in several districts of the city. You can visit masterpieces such as the Park Güell, the Casa Batlló, the Casa Milà or the Sagrada Familia which is still being built on Gaudi`s plans. The Plaça Catalunya is located downtown between the "Paseo de Gracia" and the " Ramblas". This is one of the most important places in Barcelona along with the " Plaça Espanya". It cannot be missed if you visit Barcelona!

Gran Teatre d'El Liceu de Barcelona, was built in 1847, it is the oldest and most famous theatre in Barcelona used mostly for opera, it is considered as one of the most glorious of the world.
On the 31 of January 1994 it suffered a devastating fire that destroyed the theatre. In spite of that the "new" Liceu is aesthetically an almost exact reproduction of the previous one, the reconstruction allowed the incorporation of important technological improvements that turned it into one of the most modern theatres of the world.
The Plaça Reial is characterised by his architecture and its disposition as a court, with porches that lodge very calm terraces. The square has a central fountain and palms that provide very enjoyable shade during the evening. This square is very silent and seems to be disconnected of the city. The monument of Columbus is located at the end of the Ramblas, just before the Ramblas of the Mar which leads to the Maremagnum commercial center . From several sites of the city, you can see the statue of Columbus that points towards Italy. It is possible to go up it paying only 2,30 €! The sight is marvellous!
The Port Vell is the central port of Barcelona. The cinema, the great Maremagnum commercial center and the aquarium are located here. There are always lots people who come to see the ships. Restaurants offer international food but they are expensive compared to other typical restaurants in Barcelona that you can find in the Barri Gotic or in the Borne.
The Cathedral is in the centre of the Ciutat Vella and is the only one in Barcelona. It is possible to visit the cathedral every day of the week but there are always lots of people.
The Plaça Sant Jaume is located in the centre of the Ciutat Vella. You will have the opportunity to view both buildings - the Generalitat of Catalonia and of the Town hall of Barcelona.

The Arc de Triomf of Barcelona was made as principal entry, in 1888, for the Universal Exhibition, which was located in the park of the Ciudadella. The frieze on the front, created by Josep Reynás, is a representation of Barcelona welcoming visitors.

Due to the inspiration of the engineer Carles Buïgas, who designed a new type of fountain-spout in which the artistic element is the changeable forms of the water, the "Font Màgica" is one of the last works that remained in the end of the closure of the Universal Exhibition of 1929. The project was completed by waterfalls and fountains. Now, it is a wonderfull spectacle.
The Museu Nacional D'Art de Catalunya include all the arts (sculpture, painting, arts of the object, drawings, engravings, cartels, collection of photography and collection of numismatics) and its purpose is to display what is the Catalan art, from the Romanesque era until the middle of the twentieth century.

The Hospital of Sant Creu and Sant Pau originates from 1401 and is the result of a merger of six hospitals. At the end of the nineteeth century with the development of the city and the progress of medicine, the hospital remains small but the construction of a new building began. Today, 600 years on, the Hospital still exists.
Montserrat is an extraordinary and unmissable site for those who stay more than few days in Barcelona. It is possible to go to Montserrat by train (have a look to the page of the Renfe) or by car, taking the Rodna Litoral, towards Terrassa and Manresa, and then towards the Monistrol de Montserrat, all in less than one hour.
